Emo Worship

In this episode, James talks about a growing trend in praise and worship music - Emo Worship. What is it, why is it and is it needed, or even right? He covers the music of W.F. Crumley, Rick Pino of Fire Rain Ministries and the craft of songwriting.

A Little Q & A

Listener feedback already!!! In this episode James responds spoiler reactions; to some comments made about the Michael Jackson Tribute show; discusses the exit of Paula Abdul from "American Idol"; and responds to some listener email questions. (Hints: Should Christians watch rated R movies? And just what is James' favorite movie of all time?)

Movie Review: "Ice Age 3" & "Knowing"

What do you do with Dinosaurs??? On a recent "Daddy/Daughters Date Night Extravaganza, I took my girls to see Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It was neat to watch them identify the diferent kinds of dinos like they were old hands or something, and it was even more fun to laugh and joke with them at what was happening on the screen. But is this really a good movie for kids?

Knowing was a movie that completely blindsided me. There are some interesting biblical allusions and a lot of respect - remarkably a typical for Hollywood - given to the Christian worldview in this film.

Michael Jackson Tribute

Just the man and his music; no drama, no gossip, no weirdness.

I was encouraged by many people to go ahead and release this as an episode, so today I will discuss Michael Jackson and the influence his music had on my life. I cover various songs from "Off The Wall" "Thriller" "Bad" "Dangerous" as well as John Mayer's stunning tribute from the Michael Jackson Memorial Service.

Welcome, WELCOME!!!

Hey there people who aren't reading this yet (as I write it) but are reading it now (as you are now reading it)! I want to thank you for taking the time to listen and read (there will be much of the former but not too awful much of the latter, here). Don't forget to call me @ 206-350-3331. You can give me questions, comments, thoughts, concerns, rants, show ideas, argue with me about my opinions... it's all open here at 3am Arts in Review.
We still have a few months left of the summer movie explosion, so I will definitely be covering those goigns on. We're looking soon for the return of some of my favorite summertime TV viewing (i.e. Psych and Monk in it's final season) as well as following the shows that have already returned.
For those of you in the Southeastern TN region, I will be keeping a close eye on artistic happenings in the region, but if you think I am missing something let me know.
The inaugural episode has been recorded and will be released first (available for online listening and subscribing) but my first episode afterward will be my tribute to Michael Jackson. I know there are thousands upon thousands that might be created and released over the next year, but it's important to me to do this now while the impact is fresh. After that, all bets are off.
I'm still looking for ideas about a movie rating system (listen to the inaugural episode for more details on that).
I look forward to reviewing and assisting, but, more than anything, I am really excited about discussing the arts in popular culture, their impact on society, their importance (or lack thereof) and how I as a Christian can benefit while being "in the world but not of it."
See you guys soon!
